We’re excited to share that Antonio “Tony” C. from Chula Vista, California has been named Residential Driver of the Year by the National Waste and Recycling Association (NWRA)!
This award is one of the highest in our industry and considered a career-defining recognition. Honorees embody our top company value, Safe, and demonstrate outstanding dedication to their customers and communities, enhancing the overall safety culture and image of the environmental services industry.
Tony is a 42-year Republic employee who is described by his team as hard-working, dedicated and positive. They view him as a mentor, teacher and friend. Tony is well respected in his community and enjoys making friends on his route and giving out small gifts to the kids, who know him well. It’s not uncommon for his customers to call the local division with compliments on his service and professionalism. Upon learning he was named 2025 Residential Driver of the Year, Tony responded in his customary humble manner.
“I feel I was nominated for this honor because of my hard work, strong safety record, and dedication to the company. I always strive to take care of my customers and meet their needs, doing everything I can to make them happy each day. I was truly humbled to learn that the Mayor of Chula Vista and a member of the City Council wrote a letter on my behalf, expressing their gratitude. Knowing they took the time to acknowledge me and that I am being recognized alongside thousands of other truck drivers fills me with pride. After 42 years as a truck driver, I never imagined a trash truck driver like me would receive such a great honor. As I near retirement, I can’t think of a better way to hang up my keys.”
Tony’s nomination was supported with letters from his local Assemblyman, Mayor, and several of his customers. Mayor John McCann says, Tony “embodies the highest standards of professionalism, safety and customer service. His dedication not only ensures the well-being of our residents and businesses but also serves as a model for his peers. The City of Chula Vista is truly fortunate to have such exceptional drivers serving our community.”
