Celebrating Drivers & Operator of the Year!

We are thrilled to announce that three employees were recognized with 2020 Driver of the Year and Operator of the Year awards by the National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA)! A big congratulations to the following drivers and operator on this tremendous honor:

National Commercial Driver of the Year Tommy G., Phoenix, Arizona Tommy’s 42 years of service with Republic is proof of his dedication not only to his career but to his family, community and our customers. “Tommy comes into work every day with a smile on his face. After all these years, he still cares as much about his customers, coworkers and his truck as he did on day one,” said Alberto G., General Manager. “This is a true testament to who Tommy is as a person and a family man.”

National Operator of the Year Keith D., Sorrento, Louisiana Keith has consistently demonstrated the essence of the Company’s five R’s in his service to Colonial Landfill for over 37 years. “Throughout Keith’s career with Republic, he has developed a reputation for being a very dedicated and loyal team member,” said Bridgette M., General Manager. “In addition to displaying extraordinary technical skills as an operator, his ‘can-do’ attitude is infectious, and he always treats his fellow team members with respect and encouragement.”

National Industrial Driver of the Year Tim F., Church Hill, Tennessee An industrial driver with Republic for 29 years, Tim is also one of our certified Behind the Wheel instructors who trains new drivers to safely operate commercial vehicles. “Tim is an absolute pleasure to work with day in and day out,” said Stephen S., General Manager. “He’s the guy who refuses to let anything get him down and he plays a significant role in the morale throughout our division. We can count on Tim to get the job done and get it done safely.”

Tommy, Keith and Tim will continue to be celebrated locally with their BUs and Areas over the coming weeks and will be recognized by Republic leaders in the coming months.

For more than 25 years, the NWRA Driver of the Year and Operator of the Year awards have honored drivers and operators in our industry who uphold the profession as an honorable occupation, and have conducted themselves, the vehicles and equipment they operate in the safest and most responsible manner possible.

Since 2009, Republic drivers have won 70% of the NWRA Driver of the Year awards, an honor that celebrates exemplary customer service and superior driver safety records. This is Republic’s second consecutive NWRA Operator of the Year award, which was added in 2017.
