Orendorf Elementary set a goal to collect 1,000 pieces of plastic milk jugs, water bottles, etc. by Earth Day. The collection was to help offset the cost of a special bench called a Buddy Bench for the school’s playground. This bench is for children to sit on when they feel lonely or need a buddy. Not only does this bench help to cultivate bringing children together, but also helps to promote sustainability in schools.
Thanks to our team in Central Pennsylvania for jumping in to help with this effort. The kids surpassed their goal and to help celebrate, our employees organized a special Earth Day event which included a Touch-A-Truck, goodie bags, and a surprise gift of a second Buddy Bench donated by Republic Services. “To see over 380 children excited about recycling and making the Earth a better place was priceless!” said Katrina C., Sales Manager.
