Black History Month: We Are Better Together Through Education and Understanding

February is Black History Month, a time to honor and celebrate the rich history and invaluable contributions of the Black community. It’s our opportunity not only to reflect on the past, but also recognize the resilience, innovation and leadership that continue to shape our workplaces and communities today.

Observances like Black History Month allow us to live our Human-Centered value and reinforce our existing commitment to advancing and supporting our Black employees and the Black communities we serve.

Throughout the month, the Black Employee Network (BEN) Business Resource Group will spotlight powerful stories from the National Museum of African American History & Culture, shared through Appspace devices and featured videos on the BEN SharePoint page. We encourage everyone to visit the Black Employee Network SharePoint page throughout February to explore these stories.

Ways to Engage and Celebrate Black History Month:

  • Support Black-Owned Businesses: Seek out and uplift Black entrepreneurs, creators and service providers in your area. Consider organizing team lunches, events, or sharing recommendations with colleagues, friends and family.
  • Community Outreach and Service: Participate in or organize volunteer opportunities that support and strengthen local Black communities. Giving back together reinforces our shared commitment to service, and inclusion and diversity.

Are you or your Business Unit celebrating Black History Month in a meaningful way? We’d love to see it! Share your photos and stories at bluenation@republicservices.com.
