2026 BU ROAD-EO Season Starts May 1; National Championship on the Horizon!

We’re getting close to the start of our 2026 BU ROAD-EO Season, kicking into high gear May 1 through October 11. The ROAD-EO is Republic Services’ flagship safety event and an opportunity for all eligible frontline employees to demonstrate their expert skills and compete for big cash prizes and the honor of being named best-of-the-best!

The Road to Nationals Starts Here!

Thinking of competing? You’ve got nothing to lose but a pocketful of cash! The ROAD-EO challenges aren’t easy, but the payoff is worth the effort. Prizes for BU ROAD-EO winners across all categories:

  • 1st place – $1,000
  • 2nd place – $750
  • 3rd place – $500

This is a qualifying year for the 2027 ROAD-EO National Championship! This will be Republic’s sixth ROAD-EO National Championship and promises to be bigger and better than ever!

New! DOT Hazmat Challenge for ES Employees

This year, we are adding a new DOT Hazmat competition. This competition involves visual inspections of a mock, hazardous material shipment and is open to employees in the following roles:

  • Drivers – Retail, LTL, Lab Pack, Emergency Response, Project Management
  • TSDFs – Drum Pad Operators, Receiving, Approvals, Labs
  • EHS Technicians and Specialists
  • Total Waste Solutions – National and Area-based

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible to compete in your BU ROAD-EO, competitors must be:

  • Employed by Republic Services for the 12 months prior to the date of your BU ROAD-EO competition
  • Preventable incident free and eligible for the safety incentive program (Safe Together and/or DTS) for the 12 months prior to the date of your BU ROAD-EO competition
  • In good standing with the Company and uphold Republic’s values
  • In a non-supervisory position
