At the Otay Landfill in Chula Vista, California, a groundbreaking team is making history: the site’s first all-female crew of heavy equipment operators.
This achievement reflects the dedication and perseverance of these women and highlights the career pathways available at Republic Services. One example is Itzel H., who began her career in 2021 as a landfill laborer. Within two years, she advanced to an operator trainee role and soon after became a heavy equipment operator.
Together, Itzel and her colleagues are demonstrating that women can thrive in roles traditionally dominated by men. Their teamwork, skill and leadership are redefining what’s possible in our industry and paving the way for others to follow.
